Prof. Durmus OZDEMIR (Head of Department)
Professor Özdemir received his PhD degree in Macroeconomics from University of Leicester, England. He hold a PG degree from the University of Glasgow and BSc degree from Hacettepe University. Previously, he had worked for the Istanbul Bilgi University, University Of Sussex-England, Bilkent University-Ankara and the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB)-Belgium. More than ten years of his academic life is spent in Europe. He is interested in Economic Development, Growth, Trade, European Economic Integration, Macroeconomics, CGE and Structural Economic Modelling. He is a research associate at Economic Research Forum and an instructor and research fellow for the ECOMOD global economic modelling group where he involved in building several country models including the model used for the peace dividend for Greece and Turkey. He edited several conference proceedings and published number of papers, books and chapters in edited volumes in his research area. He is currently a Jean Monnet Module Holder on European Political Economy and World Trade Organization (WTO) regional Trade Policy Instructor for Central and Eastern Europe, Central Asia and the Caucasus Countries (CEECA). He is a project evaluator for TUBITAK. He was also an advisor to the European Parliament on the issues of trade and economic relations between Turkey and the EU.
Assoc. Prof. Umut HALAC
Dr. Halac received his BA degree in Economics from Dokuz Eylul University in 2000. In 2006, he completed his PhD in Economics at Dokuz Eylul University. He was a visiting scholar at North Carolina University between 2006 and 2007. Since 2010, Dr. Halac holds a position at Yasar University, Department of Economics. His research interests are applied macroeconomics and time series econometrics.
Assoc. Prof. Meltem INCE YENILMEZ
Dr Meltem Ince Yenilmez received her B.A. from Eastern Mediterranean University (2001) and from there she went to Afyon Kocatepe University to take a PhD in Economics researching labor economics and economics of gender (2010). She then took a one-year Visiting Fellow at University of Cambridge focusing on gender segregation in work place and specifically the roles of female in social work and how to eliminate this discrimination. Currently, she is a visiting scholar at University of California-Berkeley. Her research interests lie in the fields of gender segregation, labor market, unemployment benefits, impact of education on women, feminism with its negativities and positivities, women entrepreneurs, females from socio-economic perspectives, labor law and social work. Her dissertation, which was titled Female Employment and Demand for Female Labor, received honorable mention in the category of the Social Sciences. Her recent projects and publications have included: the psychological consequences of unemployment, flexicurity, women’s rights and cultural alteration, job insecurity, jobless growth, gender differences in working conditions and intersectionality. She is currently working on a book manuscript based on her dissertation. Additionally, she is developing a comparative research project on flexicurity, job insecurity and employment rigidities on labor market between Turkey and Europe.
Asst. Prof. Ayse Ozden BIRKAN
Özden Birkan completed her BSc. in Economics in 1996 and her MSc. in Economics in 1998 at the Middle East Technical University, Turkey. She received her PhD in Economics from the Department of Economics, University of Utah in 2008. Her research interests include heterodox economic theory, monetary theory, open economy macroeconomics, international economics, applied econometrics and history of economic thought.
Asst. Prof. Onur Burak CELIK
After graduating from Besiktas Ataturk Anatolian High School, Onur Burak Celik completed his undergraduate studies in Mathematics at Bogazici University and his master’s degree in economics at the same university. Dr. Celik went to the USA in 2002 and earned his Ph.D. degree in economics at the University of Connecticut in 2009. In the same year, he joined the Eastern Connecticut State University academic staff. Dr. Celik worked at Quinnipiac University from 2010 to 2013. He joined Yasar University in 2013. Dr. Celik works on sports economics.
Asst. Prof. Serpil KAHRAMAN
Serpil Kahraman is an Assistant Professor of Economics at Yasar University, Turkey. She completed her Ph.D. in economics, M.A. in History of Economic Thought and B.A. in economics at the University of Istanbul, Turkey. Before beginning academic career, she worked at the Koc Bank as an investment advisor, Ereks Foreign Trade Co., and Genel Insurance Co. as a financial analyst. Her writings about current issues in economics have been published in major Turkish Newspapers. She received Erasmus+ Teaching fellow to give courses in Hungary and Italy. Her research interests include: monetary theory and policy, money and banking, financial crises, and history of economics in Ottoman Empire. Furthermore, as a member of Izmir Universities Platform, and Yasar University, she has been working for students with disabilities. She is also a member of the University Job Safety and Security Committee. She worked as a visiting assistant professor at San Diego State University from February 2015 to August 2015. Dr. Kahraman is currently post-doc visiting scholar at the Department of Economics and the Center for Global Studies, University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign.
Asst. Prof. Fatma Nur KARAMAN KABADURMUS
Fatma Nur Karaman Kabadurmus received her BA in Business Administration at Istanbul University in 2004 and she completed her MA degree in Economics at Istanbul Technical University in 2006. Dr. Karaman earned her Ph.D. degree in Economics at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale in 2012. Upon graduation, she worked as an assistant professor of Economics at Kalamazoo College, MI in 2012-2013. Dr. Karaman joined Yasar University, Department of Economics in 2013. Her research interests include international economics, development economics and economics of innovation.
R.A. Elcin DORUK
Elçin Doruk received her BSc. in Political Science and International Realtions from Maramara University in 2008 and her M.A. in European Studies from Izmir University of Economics in 2012. She is currently a PhD student in International Relations at Ege University. Her research interests lie in the area of border management, Europeanization and intercultural dialogue.
R.A. Elif KORKMAZ
Elif Korkmaz received her BSc. İn Mathematics from Dokuz Eylul University in 2013. She is currently a master’s student in Economics at Dokuz Eylul University. Her research interests lie in the area of international economics.
